Saturated Fats and Cholesterol – The New Science
For the last 60 years, we have been told that saturated fats are the cause of heart disease.
Today, sixty years later, we are learning that this theory was based on flawed science and that saturated fats, like those in butter, meat, cheese, eggs, and coconut oil, do not actually contribute to any increased danger for cardiovascular risk.
I have read numerous articles recently on the subject of saturated fats and why the negative “information” we have been told repeatedly for the last 60 years; i.e. that saturated fats are the cause of heart disease, was flawed.
This recent article provides the clearest explanation I have been able to find. In summary, sixty years later, we are learning that this theory was based on flawed science, and that saturated fats, like those in butter, meat, cheese, eggs, and coconut oil, do not actually contribute to any increased danger for cardiovascular risk.
The, apparently misguided, advice to avoid fats lead to the proliferation of Low Fat diets, which have caused havoc with the health of people throughout the developed world and contributed significantly to the obesity crisis we are now experiencing.
