Before I share with you the 5 things you really need to know and understand about your life after you retire from your day job, I would like to start by giving you a brief overview of my own story, so you can put these 5 important facts that I am about to share with you into context.
Having reached the age of 67, I am still fit, healthy, active and enthusiastic. To be honest, I have not even considered retirement. Like many mature men I believe I still have much to offer and contribute: valuable knowledge, skills and experience from a lifetime of experience in senior management in businesses of all sizes and industries and heaps of energy and ideas.
Also, like all human beings, I need a purpose in my life to make it truly meaningful and enjoyable. The good news is, I believe I have been presented with the perfect opportunity to maintain my own sense of purpose and self worth by helping other men just like me to get the most out of their retirement years. I created this website to share with you what I have learnt and am still learning on my own journey, and to make it as easy as possible for you to design a long, healthy, happy and wealthy retirement life for you and your family.
I have a vision and a mission to help millions of men, all around the world, to design the life of their dreams for themselves and their families, after retiring from their day jobs. My vision would have been just a dream even 15 years ago, but the internet revolution has changed everything, and made this possible.
As people are now living longer and healthier lives than ever before, the current retirement age in most developed countries has fallen way behind average life expectancy and is completely outdated. The world cannot afford to keep wasting this amazing, under-rated and vastly under-utilised resource.
What I personally find incredibly frustrating is that Governments and society are ignoring these changes and continue to consign older people to the scrapheap to become a potential burden on society, when they could continuing to contribute, to earn money and reduce this looming burden on society that has every government in the developed world worried and concerned about how they will fund the increasing social security and medical costs. Changing this is one of the key elements of My Mission
Equally, men like us, whether approaching retirement age or already retired, need to completely change our mindset about our lives after retiring from the day jobs that we did for some 45 years, and in many cases, did mostly for the money, without any real fulfillment or enjoyment.
My website has been designed to make it easy for mature men to find all the information and guidance they might need to make their third life phase fulfilling and happy, without the need to spend lots of time researching hundreds of websites. That will be my job. What I am doing is bringing together in one ”easy to use” website, all the information you will need. Your one-stop-shop to a great future.
Oh, and the good news is, you will get it in plain English with no jargon or technical stuff that you don’t need to know or understand. Just the facts you need to guide you in the right direction, to show you your options and to get you set up to move forward.
If you would like to know more about me, please follow this link to the ”About Me” section of my website. Right, let’s get down to the nitty gritty. So, what are the 5 things you really need to know and understand about your life after you retire from your day job?
1. You will probably live longer than you thought
Life expectancy for older people in the Developed Nations of the world has been increasing for over 100 years. See table:
Importantly, these estimates were based on the age-specific mortality rates in the male population in 2011, so given the rate of positive change that is already happening in biotechnology and medical science, this is probably a very conservative estimate. For more details see my article “Future Life Expectancy –the Longevity Revolution”.
Now this is the exciting bit. If you are now a healthy, active, conscientious 50-65 year old, your potential life expectancy could be 100 years. This figure will probably surprise (even shock) you, but in my research I have seen figures of 120-130 frequently mentioned and even 150. But 100 seems to be a magic number that has broad acceptance.
The main reason for the big increase to 100 years from the a figure of 82 years that I quoted above, is that the longevity revolution which is already happening in biotechnology and medical science, is going to result in a quantum leap in our lifespans, but even more importantly, in how long we will stay healthy.
What that would mean is we would have 30 to 35 years of potentially active and productive life ahead of us when we retire. Wow, what would you do with that new phase of life? Well, I have plenty of ideas I will be sharing with you.
2. Your Savings and pension may not be sufficient
I am sure that many of us would have had this in the back of our minds as we approached retirement, or if we have already retired, we may be finding that we are spending more or that the interest on our investments is much less in these times of low interest rates, and the global financial crisis would have hit many of us hard, so our nest-egg for the future may already be less than we had anticipated.
Now add to that the distinct possibility that we could live for many more years than we expected and it will probably increase our concerns even further. So unless we can bring in some extra money, we may decide to cut our ongoing budgets to conserve our savings just in case we live longer, thereby making our ongoing day to day life more difficult. This is not a great situation to be in, so the next item “the internet has changed everything” becomes very interesting and important.
3. It’s never too late to change your life and make a new start
If you think that the idea of learning a new skill and creating a new business at your age is just too hard, even impossible, then think again. It all comes down to your mindset and there are numerous research studies that confirm this. To put it simply: If you believe you can do it, then you can and will. But if you believe you can’t do it; unless you are open to the idea, then you probably can’t. But just remember you may have 30-35 years of healthy active life ahead of you.
I recommend you find some quiet time to sit quietly and ask yourself the following questions:
– Do you want to have something you can be passionate about, something to stimulate you and keep your brain active, and something that will almost certainly help you to live an even longer, healthier life?
– Do you want to earn some extra income that will enable you to enjoy your new life even more, and give you peace of mind about the future? Of course you do, we all do. So please at least keep an open mind as we share this journey and grow stronger together. What you are going to learn just may, over time, change your mind. In the end the only person who can motivate you to take action is you (and your wife of course-but we never admit that do we!).
4. The internet has changed everything
We are now in the midst of the Internet Revolution, which is completely changing the human life experience, and is unstoppable. If you want to get the most out of your longer life, I highly recommend you embrace this new technology and find out how it can be used in many ways to improve your life experience.
Using this technology, you can set up your own online business and continue to contribute to society and your loved ones, to earn extra money for your later years, and make the most of your longer, healthier more active lifespan. Even better, the internet means you can create and run your new business on your own terms, working whenever and wherever you choose. As long as you have a computer, tablet or smartphone, you can run your business from home or from the beach.
I believe that this new opportunity is so incredible that one of the 4 main parts of my system is devoted entirely to helping you to do exactly that.
The internet has made it possible to communicate and do business directly with 68% of the 1.2 million people that live in North America, Europe and Australasia, and 34% of the world’s 7 million people (source: http://www.internetworldstats.com/), and that figure is growing rapidly.
For those of us who speak English, there are some 93 countries where English is widely spoken and read; so we have a potential market beyond our wildest dreams. International boundaries are no longer a barrier to doing business.
5. Warning –Making money on the internet is not as easy as some Internet Marketers would like you to believe.
Please don’t be put off by this heading, but I need to warn you. I started my education in internet marketing 2 years ago and although I am very well educated and have had a lifelong career in senior management in some very big companies, when I made the decision to change my life to undertake this mission, I soon realised that as far as Internet Marketing was concerned, I was totally naive.
I realised I needed to get some high quality education from the best in the business, and that is what I have been doing for the last 12 months as I developed and refined my model for “Design Your New Life,” and boy, have I made some mistakes and spent significant sums of money to learn about things that, in hindsight, I didn’t really need to know. But some of my most important education has been gained by simply getting on the mailing lists of many of the most prominent Internet Marketers and reading their sales pitches and website content.
Now, there are some very honest and talented people in the business, but there are many others that make claims for their products that are simply outrageous e.g.:
– “How to earn a six figure income in 90 days,”
– “Triple your sales with this,”
– “1,000,000 customers in 11 months? We have proof,”
and many more. What you need to know up front is that there are no magic pills, no quick fortunes to be made. This is about building a high quality business, with great products that fulfill a need that some people have, and that they are willing to pay someone to provide for them.
I have learnt many valuable lessons, some of them the hard way, and if I was starting again now from scratch, I would do it quicker, smarter and cheaper, and I can spot a “con” from a mile away. I also know what you will and won’t need to know-which will depend on the niche you choose to specialise in. I will share my experience and knowledge with you to make your journey smoother than mine.
The other good news is that, even in the last 12 months, the number of outstanding training courses available has increased dramatically; there are some fantastic courses and brilliant tutors to choose from. I am also hoping to get some great deals with some of the top trainers for you.
I need to make a confession to you is that, after some time when I felt that I was not making the progress I had expected to make, I realised that I had been guilty of procrastination. Now I have always been proud of the fact that I had always been recognised as a no-nonsense person that could get results fast, so I was a bit worried (Early signs of Alzheimer’s??). So I consulted some of my colleagues of a similar vintage and was relieved to find that they were all experiencing similar symptoms and that this was simply a fact of life as you age and no, not the onset of a dreaded disease-Phew.
I hope you have found this article useful. I have written 10 overview articles; in Internet Marketing terminology they are “Cornerstone” articles – so called because they contain fundamentally important information that all new members will need to read up front and all existing members will refer back to regularly. So they will stay permanently on my home page in the right hand column under the heading “Essential Recommended Reading”, and I really do recommend that you read them all before we move forward on our journey together. You can read the first one Here. You will find a link to the next “Cornerstone article” at the end of each one in the series.
I hope you enjoy the journey, please feel free to let me know if you have any comments or questions by posting a comment below in this or any other article in the “Have Your Say” Box.
You are also welcome to share with friends and family, or on your favourite Social Media site by pressing the “Share with Friends” Button below and following the simple instructions. I look forward to getting to know you better
